Living Spaces Pixelache Festival
Collaborator: No Culture
Visual identity and website for the 2015 multidisciplinary festival held in Helsinki, organized around the theme Living Spaces.
Our main approach consisted in using design as a practical instrument to incite connections between people and the numerous contexts where the festival took place.
Pixelache is a Helsinki-based trans-disciplinary platform for emerging art, design, research and activism. Since 2002, it organizes an annual festival around emerging technologies and their impact on society.
The 2015 edition was entitled Living Spaces, focusing on Helsinki’s urban environment and its potential for creative and participatory manifestations.
Leaflets were multi-functional, with a map of all the events on one side, and a pocket-size poster on the other.
Decentralized structures have multiple viewpoints that are constantly changing.
This fluctuating feature was incorporated in the logo: a colorful, dynamic symbol evoking an atom: ever changing, adapting, and creating multiple scenarios.
The festival’s icon is present in a series of pictures that depict different landscapes in Helsinki, underlining the festival’s ubiquity.
The collateral design was conceptualized to incite participation among visitors:
The festival’s pins were gamified in order to link them to one of the events known as Culture Coding: a series of activities that reflect on human behavior and the possibility to redesign it inspired by computer coding. For this purpose, pins were customized so that visitors could use them to adopt a role and initiate a collective game.
